on language.

Why do we soften our words?
The “ums” and “likes” that take away the life from our phrases,
the fire that gives them meaning and truth,
from where do they bloom?
Dominating the spoken word until we are nothing but
“maybes” and “sort ofs” and
nothing of us solid or expressed with conviction.
We are all lacking,
the power of our thoughts steamed out
in the tears we fear so much
from judgement.
