the bird.

Day 1

You peep at me from the lawn torch
outside the kitchen window.
I wonder who you are.

Day 2

You’re back at the torchlight again,
cocking your head in consideration.
Am I that fascinating?

Day 3

It seems you like that lamp-post.
I watch you silently
as I finish breakfast.

Day 4

I leave the house early,
missing our daily appointment.
When I come back, you are gone.

Day 5

You’re at my own window today,
and turn away while I dress.
I guess even birds know shame.

Day 6

I check the mail,
and find you frolicking in the grass.
Feeling adventurous?

Day 7

I wait for you,
but you don’t come today.
Will you be back soon?
