Flinging crystals from the chandelier
We drip pearls into each other’s mouths
Targeting the essence of the heart
We say “fuck it all,” but we want the crown
Darkening and sharpening our thin outer lashes,
Curling our hair,
Raising our chests,
No end game defined
For what
Can compel bright hearts to ravage
But the fear that the are not the fairest in the land?

Why
should past conquests be
what keep us cloaked
from the chill of present insecurity
on low days
when we cannot accept
the smiles of lovers
as real?

The memories
can only ever bring
a whisper of comfort
in the power they give us to change
the past
for a shallow boost
that is granted much better
by chocolate.

and teases my tongue with flavours of home.

she lost me
in the seas where she cast her nets
hoping to catch someone to allow her those excuses

left to sink
in the false sympathy I couldn’t provide,
for I cared too much.

Her boat now drives
itself to warmer shores
that burn with a harsh frankness spiced with lust

seeking relationships
that don’t threaten her with
the need to grow up.

Look anywhere but forward.

It’s scary, but
I can’t really fault you.
I’m doing the same thing.

A reluctance to live will kill us all.
