Ms. Smith: A Charicature

Delicate in that
classic way
the simple heroines always are,
she blends
into the room, protected
as one of them.

Her face is older
than anyone would expect,
but in her hands
she holds allusions to
her youth:
a Love Pink bag and iPhone.

The effort is obvious
to the point of being annoying,
but we all have our crosses to bear.

the project.

I built you so beautiful
so beautiful
in my mind
to protect me from
your ugliness
Within that wax case
bathed you in
A baptism
so we could be
or at least have no one laugh at our flaws
I fell in love with the potential
all that I could see us being
hope for
mould you into
with some changes in myself
that you demanded

Today I Told

I already knew you were going to ask the question.
You always do, don’t you?
Every time we meet it’s in your
How you want us to be like
you are with them.
Why you don’t understand I can’t

My Feet are Smaller than Yours

My feet are smaller than yours,
Fairy Feet, I like to think.
They fumble and bumble
and like to go backward.

My feet are smaller than yours,
and can only go so fast.
I have to run to keep up
when you thoughtlessly ask to play.

My feet are smaller than yours.
You think they’ve not gone far, I know.
Braving their first steps out of fairyland,
you look upon them kindly.

My feet are smaller than yours,
but that’s no way to measure a life.
Please don’t write me off
as just someone with small feet.
