the arrest.

Behind bars
In our personal barricaded taxi,
Plastic walls
Keep us locked into truth.

Waiting on those
Who are employed to be concerned,
Yet will never bother
After they milk us for glory.

“Never two without three.”
We should have known
We’d joked too early
Two nights before his fall
That took us all to this place.

We take selfies
To make the waiting game easier.
Refusing to be victimized,
But almost feeling pity
For our former never-comrade.

Orange Vibrato

The body hums an
Orange Vibrato
when the feelings are
too terrifying
to face alone.
A violent burning
blinds on instinct
from the demonized
other side.
It’s easier to
poeticize
than process.

People say not to believe those who lie for you, but are not those lies a strong enough proof of fate?
We sacrifice so much to preserve you,
losing the line between life and lies.

Losing ourselves.

And we don’t even ask for much. Just that you believe us, who latch on to truth wherever we can.

push for connection;
I wouldn’t be asking if
I did not have fear.

Red Flags

Those red flags dusted your eyelashes
Shutters flashing open to reveal your fears
I was fine at first
“We all have our insecurities”
I said
And brushed them away with my fingertips
Redefining the very core of me
With their licks and edges
They fought against freedom
Leaving me alone
In the place they had once welcomed me to so proudly
Those brilliant red flags.

Cold bodies, always
honest in their intention
to seek pure warmth.
